Do you know this situation? You only want to buy one item, and in front of you someone is causing a return drama. So I wait there, in good spirits, wanting to pay for my toast, while the older gentleman in front of me brings the pumpkin price tag to the cashier to prove his point (and is then allowed to put it back).
As he is right, his change amusingly drops from the machine right in front of me, and I think: “Jackpot.” Honestly, I’m this close to shouting it across the store – but I don’t. He takes his money, we smile at each other, and then I see the cashier lift my toast, turn it once, and put it back on the belt with the words: “This isn’t mine.” I keep smiling and say: “Yes, because it’s mine.” “No, this isn’t from here.” Still smiling, I feel slightly messed with for a moment – because where else should I have gotten the toast? She turns it to the side, and the Aldi logo appears. “We’re at Penny, not Aldi.”
I nod. “Yes, I figured – and I got the toast from your shelf right over there.” She shrugs. “Maybe someone left it there.” Sure. Someone buys toast at Aldi, walks into Penny, and just happens to place it perfectly in the bread section in a full crate of toast.
Whatever. She scans it and puts it down as if I’m trying to fool her. “So does that mean you’re giving me the toast for free?” She shrugs. “It’s definitely not from here. So I guess … yes.” My smile gets even wider, and I thank her for my free toast. And if you’ve ever wondered how to turn a good day into a great day for a Swabian – that’s how.
For a moment, I consider going back inside and taking the whole crate of Aldi toast “for free,” because I’m pretty sure a supplier just delivered it to the wrong store. But I also want other customers to enjoy the same effect – so I drive home with my jackpot. Do you recognize it when the universe gives you gifts? Or do you only get upset that your wishes aren’t fulfilled? “I want more … health, money, love …” And interestingly, we receive plenty of all of that already – just not in the form we expect. Because honestly: if you wish for more money and receive it, what do you do with it? Probably buy toast, right? So the universe simply skips a step and says: “You don’t need more money; I’ll find a way to give you the toast directly.”
Every invitation to dinner, every gift, every Aldi toast at Penny … all of it is abundance flowing to you.
“Nothing has ever been gifted to me,” you might think. Look again. I believe we all receive many gifts but don’t notice them anymore. You stop by a friend’s place, and they’ve spontaneously cooked something – unplanned. Another friend visits you and brings a bottle of cola from last night’s pizza delivery that he still had at home. Gifts are coming to you all the time. Do you recognize them – and realize that your order for “more money” is being delivered too? Just differently than you expected. And if you now wonder why that is: The universe has a sense of humor. Doing everything exactly the way you think would be boring and predictable.
Ask. Trust. Receive.
That’s an important trinity for you. I wish you lots of joy noticing the gifts.
