Last week, we were on safari in South Africa. At first, I took pictures of every animal – even those barely visible in the distance. As I zoomed in, I already knew it wouldn’t really be worth it. Who wants blurry, pixelated photos anyway?
And yet, there was always this little fear: “What if I don’t get to see this animal up close later? Better take a (useless) photo from far away.”
Well, taking lots of photos drains your battery quickly. Of course, we ended up getting much closer to the animals in the hours that followed. Luckily, I had brought my power bank – otherwise, the really beautiful photos wouldn’t have been possible.
That’s when a question popped into my mind: Is it worth my battery?
With every thought that crosses your mind and feels like it might be interesting, ask yourself: Is it worth my battery? Take the news, for example. “You have to stay informed.” But do you really? “What will others say if I can’t join in on the gossip?” Just between us: Is it worth your battery to spend hours on topics you can’t (or don’t want to) influence?
Because: You can’t give your energy to the truly important things in your life if you believe everything is important. Fuel prices. The economy. Politics. Wars. The climate. The forests. The water. The air. Aliens – or not.
Don’t get me wrong: if one of these topics fascinates you and you’re actually doing something about it – go get the knowledge, make the changes you can, and move on to the next project.
But just talking about what someone or those at the top should be doing won’t change a thing – apart from bringing down the mood.
What if all the time you spend on things that have nothing to do with your goals, dreams, and desires… you invested in exactly those things instead?
What if you gave your favorite person a little more of your time? Or allowed yourself some extra peace and quiet?
But hey – then the world might just pass you by, right? How about simply giving it a try?
And if your experience turns out to be anything like mine over the past ten years, you’ll realize something important: “It makes no difference whether I know everything bad that happened in the world yesterday – or all the terrible predictions of what might happen tomorrow.”
Because in the end, it does make a difference – just in a different way:
I use all that saved time for things that bring me joy and make me happy.
That leads to greater quality of life. And suddenly, I become part of the solution – because I go into the world with an open, joyful heart and inspire others to do the same.
But as long as you keep busying yourself with pointless topics – out of fear that the world might no longer like you if you say NO to a few things – you won’t have that freedom.
You can only break out of the prison once you realize you’re in one.
So ask yourself more often: Is it worth my battery? And then remember the second key message in today’s inspiration: You can’t give your energy to the truly important things in your life if you believe everything is important.
Wishing you a fantastic week – with plenty of focus on everything that makes you feel good and brings you closer to your dreams, wishes, and goals.
