“In every child, there is a little bit of an adult, yet in every adult, there is a lot of a child.” I read this beautiful sentence a few days ago, and it has become the guiding theme of our first Rügen Retreat this weekend. At the core of it lies the inner child – something we all have but rarely question or seek to change its story.
“How can I change my story?” you might wonder. “What happened has happened.” That’s true. And yet, everything you are today is built upon the foundation of those past events. Now imagine you had the chance to change that story. Wouldn’t everything in your life today be different if things had been different back then? After all, your current life is based on your past experiences. What if you could actually transform that past?
Anke guided our participants through a wonderful “Journey” meditation aimed precisely at facilitating such a transformation.
“And does this really work, Norman?”
Yes, it does. Because your past is ultimately just a story you tell yourself and others. It’s no longer real.
“But what about the memories and emotions? They feel very real.”
That may be true, but the actual event is long gone. Your thoughts may trick you into believing that those feelings are still the same, which in turn triggers similar reactions within you. But is that really true?
There’s no dog barking at you anymore, making you afraid.
There’s no teacher labeling you as a failure.
And there’s no first love leaving you behind.
All of this now exists only in your mind. What if, from now on, you chose to tell yourself a different version of that story? What if you forgave the people involved and looked at the situation from a new perspective? Wouldn’t that inevitably change your behavior in the present and, in turn, bring you new experiences and results in life? Of course, it would. Because if you change the “die-cut” of a machine, the final product it produces will also change. The same principle applies to your life.
It’s magical to witness how people positively transform when they go through this process. Even if you can’t be here on Rügen with us this weekend, I invite you to take advantage of 20% off my exclusive Mein Schiff workshops in the German online version until midnight tonight. With the code “Bright-Friday,” you’ll save 20% on your investment. These workshops lay the foundation for any form of inner transformation you might be seeking.
The world out there feels increasingly chaotic – but instead of hoping for external circumstances to change, you can learn to shift your perspective on things. And that’s exactly what the tools in these workshops will help you achieve.
We’re about to begin our third day of transformation, so I’ll leave you with my best wishes for an amazing week and send warm greetings from the Baltic Sea, where it feels like -7 degrees.
