A few days ago, one of our neighbors started redoing their front yard. At first, I thought he was just pressure-washing his car or the driveway. But I kept hearing the sound every evening. Eventually, curiosity got the better of me, so I peeked over the bushes—and there it was: a beautiful new entrance area taking shape in front of their house.

As I glanced next door, my eyes fell on a book I’ve been reading by Neville Goddard. In it, I came across a sentence that perfectly matched my thoughts:

“Life is images of the mind expressed to the extent that they are believed.”

Imagination creates reality.

Have you ever noticed that everything not directly from nature—everything man-made—started out as an idea in someone’s mind? To put it simply: everything you can perceive with your five senses that was created by humans started out as someone’s thought before it became reality. The same goes for my neighbor’s new front yard.

Before a single stone was laid, he had to get clear on what he actually wanted. And that happens in one of two ways:

  1. He had a clear vision.
  2. He at least knew what he didn’t want—and used that to figure out what he did want instead.

No matter the path: nothing material just fell from the sky. Everything was created by people, machines, or companies—based on a single idea.

As I watched the construction unfold, I was reminded again that my future life, too, must first take shape in my mind. If I only focus on what I don’t want, how can I expect to attract what I do want? If my neighbor had simply said, “I don’t want these pebbles anymore,” they probably would’ve stayed right where they were. Only by clearly thinking, “I want large natural stones,” could he take concrete action—order them or buy them—and begin creating the change.

What do you want? Write it down. Visualize it. Engage your mind with it. The more you do that, the closer you’ll get to your desires. Your focus will shift. You’ll start to notice opportunities and pathways that bring you closer to your goals. Because only when you’re thinking about a new garden will you start noticing the tools and supplies you need at the hardware store.

And here comes the next key point: You have to believe that it’s possible for you. Because where there is no belief, there is no delivery. “I don’t believe I’ll win the lottery.” Well—then you won’t play. No action = no chance. No belief = no movement.

I wish you a fantastic week full of dreams and ideas. Because they are the starting point of everything you now call “reality.” And then—believe. Truly believe that your dreams can become real. Because without those inner steps, you don’t even need to begin the outer work.
