The topic of MMFI (Make Me Feel Important) continues to occupy my mind. Hopefully, it’s on your mind too. Why I ask? Well, as I always put it so nicely in my workshops, everything you ever want to possess in your future already exists on this planet. Nothing, absolutely nothing, needs to be flown in from Mars or anywhere else. So, if everything I want is already here, where is it today? Well, it still belongs to someone else today. Ta-da… the formula is now quite simple for how you can acquire these things. Treat other people kindly. MMFI.
In this regard, I came across a beautiful sentence from Disney in a highly interesting book. It goes like this: “The magic behind Disney’s great guest service is not as secret as one often thinks. If it’s important to you that your employees treat the customers friendly, then simply hire friendly employees.” I’d say there’s nothing to add to that. And that brings us to the question of the week. Are you friendly?
By that, I don’t necessarily mean whether you greet the neighbors or donate to a great charity once a year. My question is more directed towards yourself. Because before you are friendly to others, you should be friendly to yourself. However, I know from my own experience that we often speak to ourselves in a way we wouldn’t let anyone else talk to us. “I’m such an idiot.” “I’ll never get this right.” “Oh man, how stupid can one be.” All common sentences we often fire at ourselves. Is that friendly? Certainly not. Can we then expect to be friendly to the world if we’re already failing to be friendly to ourselves?
Always remember Disney’s quote: “If it’s important to you that your employees treat the customers friendly, then simply hire friendly employees.” If it’s important to you that the world treats you kindly, start treating yourself more friendly. Because the world is merely a reflection of your own attitude towards yourself. Moreover, you will only attract people into your environment who align with your way of thinking and acting. So, if you want a friendlier world, start with yourself. Everything else will follow.
With that in mind, I wish you a fantastic week and warm greetings from Visby in Gotland.
